About First Lutheran

First Lutheran Church was organized by Swedish immigrants in Jamestown in 1856. The first church was constructed in the 1860’s at the corner of Center and Chandler Streets. Since that time, the congregation has seen many changes, including changes in membership and the replacement of the original wooden church with the current cathedral-like church that was completed in 1901 as part of a construction project that began in 1892. The adjoining Education Building and Chapel were constructed in the 1950s.
The church’s archives contains numerous historical documents and photographs. For research or genealogy inquiries, please contact the Historical Committee by calling the church office at 716-664-4601.
